Calculated Carrier Rates
With calculated carrier rates, the shipping cost is determined dynamically based on the weight and dimensions of the product(s), the shipping origin and destination, and the shipping service selected by the customer. Shopify connects with major shipping carriers such as UPS, USPS, FedEx, and DHL to provide real-time shipping rates to customers during checkout. This means that customers see accurate shipping costs based on their order details and the shipping carrier's rates. Shopify also offers negotiated carrier rates that can be used to obtain discounted shipping rates for merchants. Calculated carrier rates provide the most accurate shipping costs and can help to prevent merchants from undercharging or overcharging for shipping.
With flat rate shipping, merchants set a fixed shipping cost for all orders, regardless of weight or destination. This shipping rate is typically charged per order or per item, and is not dependent on any variables such as the weight or dimensions of the products or the destination of the order. Flat rate shipping is a simple and straightforward option for merchants who do not want to spend time setting up and managing more complex shipping rate calculations. However, flat rate shipping can result in undercharging or overcharging for shipping, especially for larger or heavier orders or orders that are shipped internationally.

To activate carrier calculated rates on Shopify, follow these steps:
- Log in to your Shopify admin panel.
- Click on the "Settings" tab located on the bottom left corner of the page.
- Click on the "Shipping and delivery" tab located in the Settings menu.
- Scroll down to the "Shipping rates" section and click on "Manage rates".
- Click on "Add rate" to create a new shipping rate.
- Select "Carrier-calculated rates" from the drop-down menu under "Rate type".
- Select the shipping carriers you want to use (e.g. UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL) from the drop-down menu.
- Enter the origin address for the shipments.
- Choose the shipping services you want to offer (e.g. ground, overnight, two-day).
- Review the shipping rates provided by the carrier and make any necessary adjustments to the rates.
- Click "Save" to activate carrier-calculated shipping rates.
Note: viaGlamour provides shipping rates automatically for every single country, product combination, and address type automatically if you add viaGlamour as one of your shipping rates carrier providers following the settings above. This is a free feature provided by viaGlamour for all Shopify merchants.
From your Shopify admin, click on settings, select the shipping menu option, and navigate towards the shipping profiles section.
Select viaGlamour's shipping profile and select on manage.
By managing shipping viaGlamour's shipping rates, you can change the costs being charged to your customers for products shipped by viaGlamour.
Add a rate and select use carrier to calculate rates to view the new shipping methods provided by viaGlamour.
